Very short and lovely story made perfect by amazing artwork, words and images went together as well as peanut butter and jelly or, this being a christmas story, like snowman shaped cookies and milk. But I have another story.

How to write an unsentimental Christmas story?

I though copiers and fax machines would be par for the course, but not so much. This was a sweet Christmas short story that was pleasant enough to read but I think will struggle to have any lasting impact on me.

I love the scene with the older woman, who is blind, juxtaposed with the main character who finds himself in her apartment while searching for her grandson. Auggie picked up his wallet and instead of giving it to the police, he saved it, and he must have thought about it for a long time. Plus the movie has a great soundtrack. I requested this from my local library last December. It was a Christmas Eve for the ages. Also there is some question whether the story is true leaving it up to the reader to choose what they want to believe.

Apr 19, Cari rated it liked it. February is perhaps not the best time for this christmasy short story but I enjoyed it anyway! Not a normal standard of Christmas ed well fuento the read. Then he went back up the hill to his church, and shortly thereafter the church bells rang out Christmas auggid that could be heard all over town. I really felt as though someone was speaking to me the entire time. Now I’m going to have to find the movie ‘Smoke’ that this story served as a basi Short – and very sweet I purchased this book because I’m re-reading Paul Auster’s books and this was one I hadn’t run across.


After several blocks, I found a spot where I’d had some happy times with friends in years gone by.
